MIKE RAMSEY - OF COUNSEL
Mike Ramsey was born on April 27, 1953, in Odessa Texas. He completed high school at the Singapore American School in Singapore. He is an alumnus of Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas where he studied pre-law and earned a B. S., Criminal Justice in 1978. He continued his legal education in San Antonio, Texas where he earned a J. D. in 1980 from St. Mary=s University of San Antonio. He is a former equity partner at Provost Umphrey Law Firm in Beaumont, Texas and is currently Of Counsel to The Mostyn Law Firm, operating out of our Beaumont office.
Mr. Ramsey was admitted to the State Bar in 1981 and to practice also before the U.S. Fifth and Eleventh Circuit Courts of Appeals and U.S. District Court of the Eastern District of Texas. He is board certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and the National Board of Trial Advocacy as a Personal Injury Trial Specialist. He was a director of the Jefferson County Mediation Center and served in that capacity from 1986-1991. He is a past member of the Jefferson County Lawyer Client Conciliation Committee and also served as a director and secretary of the Jefferson County Bar Association.
In 2001 Mr. Ramsey was elected by his peers to serve during the legislative session as President of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association. He is a past member of the TTLA Executive Committee, is a past Secretary/Treasurer, and has served on numerous other committees and task forces. Mr. Ramsey is a member of the American Bar Association, Association of Trial Lawyers of Trial of America and the State Bar of Texas. He served as president of the Southeast Texas Trial Lawyers Association.
In 1991, Governor Ann Richards appointed Mr. Ramsey to the Board of Regents of the Lamar University, during which time he chaired numerous committees, and he was appointed Chairman of the Board of Regents in 1993.
Mr. Ramsey was a director of Community Bank from 1992 until 2005 and was chairman of the Audit and Finance Committee and he continues to serve as an advisory director of Texas State Bank. He has served as a member of the Beaumont Planning and Zoning Commission, the Community Action Development Committee and as a member of the Beaumont Municipal Airport Advisory Board. Mr. Ramsey also served as a director of Boys Haven and on numerous other local civic and charitable boards and is a member of Saint Stevens Episcopal Church.
Mr. Ramsey is married to Myla, and they have three children: Katherine, 21 years old, Melissa, 20 years old and Michael, Jr., 18 years old.
